Modern Foreign Languages

Modern Foreign Languages at Holsworthy Community College open doors to global communication, cultural understanding, and lifelong learning. Through the study of languages, students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while gaining insight into different cultures and traditions.

Our curriculum plans for Years 7–11 are designed to build confidence, fluency, and a foundation for further language study or international opportunities.

Modern Foreign Languages (French) – Inclusive Practice

In French, we support our SEND learners by applying ADAPT strategies that promote clarity, accuracy, and engagement with the language

Examples of Adapt in Practice in French Lessons:

· Sentence Builders support vocabulary and grammatical accuracy to check that students have clarify and accuracy.

· Teachers model pronunciation, spelling, and sentence structure.

· Teachers also use modelling to show clear expectations for the students on the work that they need to complete.

· Students practise speaking before writing.

· Mini whiteboards support rehearsal without pressure.

· Regular check points guide further support.

· Subtle guidance through independent tasks for students.
